FRIDAY: THE WAR FOR CIVILIZATION
Cheering Terror
Western intellectuals supporting Islamist fanatics...
[Ralph Peters] 11/4/04

On the surface, the support offered to Islamist fanatics by Western intellectuals appears baffling: Those privileged to speak out in safety are cheering on men who would gladly cut their throats.

The reason goes back to the maxim that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."... [more]

FRIDAY: CULTURE POLITICK
Second Term Syndrome
Deadly partisanship in a dangerous world…

[J. F. Kelly, Jr.] 11/4/05

It is said that power corrupts which is, perhaps, the principal argument for term limits. What is it about second terms that makes them so difficult to survive? Nixon, reelected by a landslide, was done in by his own lies over Watergate. Clinton faced impeachment for lying about his sexual affair with a White House intern. The immensely popular Dwight Eisenhower had to deal with a scandal involving his chief of staff and the equally popular Ronald Reagan had the Iran-Contra scandal to contend with. Do second term presidents simply become so confident that they just lose focus?… [more]

FRIDAY: THE WAR FOR CIVILIZATION
The Same War

Terrorism returns to Turkey
...
[Michael Rubin] 11/4/05

Hardly a day goes by when an improvised explosive device does not kill or maim a soldier or civilian bystanders. Crude explosives have given way to high quality C4. Sophisticated remote-controlled detonators have replaced gerrymandered devices and increased the lethality of the improvised explosive devices. Public anger toward the government is rising as casualties mount... [more]

FRIDAY: SINGULAR VIEW
Re-Awaking the Arab Mind

Preface from Heggy’s forthcoming book...

[by Tarek Heggy]
11/4/05

What the term 'the Arab mentality' means as far as I am concerned is the common characteristics shared by Arabic-speaking societies, where the general cultural climate conditions youngsters of both sexes to develop similar patterns of thinking, reasoning and perception.

However, some American 'scholars' believe that Arabs are programmed to think in a certain way and that their mind-set is a product of their genetic makeup. Not only is there no scientific evidence to support this theory, but it smacks of racism and bigotry... [more]

THURSDAY: WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA?
Russert Leads Meadia Lynch Mob
The insiders war against the Administration…
[by Cliff Kincaid]
11/3/05

The Washington Post has published a story by Dana Priest about a debate within the CIA over holding Muslim terrorists at secret facilities. The story reflects the view of a faction in the agency that opposes this policy and wants to use the Post to convey its view publicly. Once again, the secret war against the Bush Administration is on display for all to see. Will there be an investigation of who in the agency leaked this information to the Post? Or are leaks supposed to be criminal only when Bush Administration officials are behind them?... [more]

THURSDAY: THE HOWLING DESCENT OF LIBERALISM
Why the Democrat Senators Pulled Their Rule 21 Stunt
Forcing the Republicans to cave...
[Jim Kouri] 11/3/05

On Tuesday, the Democrat Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid invoked the so-called Rule 21, which forced the US Senate to go into a closed, secret session. Reid's rationale for this rarely used tactic was that the Republicans were not seriously investigating the intelligence used in the run-up to the Iraq war.

Needless to say, Republican senators, especially Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist, were incensed over the shenanigans of people such as Senator Reid, Senator Dick "US Soldiers are Nazis" Durbin and others. The usual process for invoking Rule 21 entails the lead senator implement Rule 21 notifying the other political party's lead senator prior to demanding a secret senate session. This was not done and Senator Frist likened Reid's action to a "slap in the face."... [more]

WEDNESDAY: THE WAR FOR CIVILIZATION
Tolerance Toward the Intolerant
The danger of a self-loathing media…

[by Bruce S. Thornton] 11/2/05

The past week Muslim mobs besieged Christians in Egypt, defacing six churches and threatening publicly the Coptic Church's highest cleric. The mainstream media in the United States have not considered this attack worthy of substantial coverage. But why should we be surprised? For years Arab Muslims have been murdering and enslaving black Christians in Sudan, and only recently has this atrocity been deemed worthy of the media's attention. In fact, with the exception of the religious press, the persecution and murder of Christians across the world over the years has been met with a shrug by most American media... [more]

WEDNESDAY: THE WAR FOR CIVILIZATION
Iran's Final Solution Plan

Wipe Israel off the face of the earth...

[by Daniel Pipes] 11/2/05

"Iran's stance has always been clear on this ugly phenomenon [i.e., Israel]. We have repeatedly said that this cancerous tumor of a state should be removed from the region."

No, those are not the words of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, speaking last week. Rather, that was Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Republic of Iran's supreme leader, in December 2000... [more]

TUESDAY: JURISIMPRUDENCE
Misoverestimated

Just too clever…
[by Mac Johnson] 11/1/05

Ding, dong the pick is dead! Bush’s ill-advised pick to the Supreme Court, Harriet Miers, that is.

While Ms. Miers was obviously a loyal administrator for President Bush and may be a fantastic person, there can be no doubt that she was a disastrous choice for the Supreme Court. I’ll spare you a recap of the many reasons why, which the flickering light of your computer monitor has probably engraved upon your retinas by now...[more]

FRIDAY: WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA?
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like … Negativity
Like holiday displays, downbeat forecasts are coming earlier and earlier...

[Noel Sheppard] 11/1/05

It seems to come earlier and earlier every year, doesn’t it? No, not Christmas ads on TV, but the annual media festival of gloom and doom surrounding holiday-related retail sales.

This year, it started in August, when temperatures were in the 100-degree range across much of the country. Hurricane Katrina wasn’t even a ripple off the coast of Africa, and CNN was doing a downbeat piece called “Dreaming of a Blue Christmas.”

Four full months before the holiday, CNN was asking how higher fuel prices were going to negatively impact America’s Christmas cheer... [more]

MONDAY: THE MONDAY COLUMN
The “New” Halloween
What Does It Say About America?
...
[Carol Platt Liebau] 10/31/05

What in the world has happened to Halloween? When I was a child, it was a welcome celebration, but a modest one. As grade-schoolers, we were given a little party in our classrooms, and then permitted to parade in costume through the halls of the high school to be admired by our elders. That evening, trick-or-treating was the order of the day – along with handing out candy to those who braved the sheet-and-pillow ghost that we gleefully tossed out of an upstairs window. That was it – and it was wonderful.

But today, Halloween has become one of the biggest days on the American calendar... [more]

MONDAY: THE HOWLING DESCENT OF LIBERALISM
The Plame Game
Mr. Prosecutor Fitzgerald, Where's the Beef?...
[Jm Kouri] 10/31/05

Lewis "Scooter" Libby, chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney as well as a trusted White House security advisor, was indicted Friday by a special grand jury with five felony counts of perjury, obstructing justice and making false statements in the Valerie Plame-CIA Leak case. Libby wasn't immediately arrested, but he did resign from his White House post.

The two-year grand jury investigated allegations that someone in the Bush White House leaked the identity of a CIA covert agent to the press, a criminal act if proven true... [more]

MONDAY: ENVIROPOLITICK
Manufacturing Environmental “Facts”

What they don’t want you to know about endangered species…

[Justin Darr]
10/31/05

Did you know that if all the endangered species in the world were made safe, hurricanes would no longer hit the Gulf Coast? This is just one example of the tortured logic liberal environmentalists would like you to believe in regard to Humanity’s affect on the environment.

You have to remember that liberals do not think like you and me. We live in a world we believe to be basically good, and where doing what is right an end unto itself... [more]

FRIDAY: CULTURE POLITICK
Exterminating White People
Politically acceptable hate-speech?
...
[Selwyn Duke]
10/28/05

It has long been an assertion of mine that there’s only one difference between Adolph Hitler and some of the misbegotten souls who lurk among us: means. I don't know that I subscribe to the notion that power corrupts, but I do know that it releases inhibitions, causing one’s true colors to shine through.

Inhibitions, however, don’t seem to bedevil one Dr. Kamau Kambon. The Raleigh, N.C., activist, book store owner, and former professor at North Carolina State University advocated the “extermination of white people” while speaking at a Pro-black Media Forum at Howard Law School, in an event that was covered in its entirety by C-SPAN.

This esteemed molder of young minds contended that whites have an “international plantation” for blacks, making “every white person on earth a plantation master.” He continued, “You’re either supporting white people in their process of death, or you’re for African liberation.”... [more]

FRIDAY: AMERICAN THINKER
Mine’s Bigger

The skyscraper...

[Thomas Lifson] 10/28/05

For more than a century skyscrapers have been the visible expression of American ingenuity, energy, and prosperity. The skylines of Manhattan and Chicago were seen as uniquely American phenomena, while lesser cities of the land had their own clusters of tall buildings. No place else on earth did cities reach to the heavens with such inspiring towers in such numbers. The very sight of our forests of skyscrapers inspired pride for us, and envy, longing, and even hatred overseas... [more]

FRIDAY: KATRINA/RITA FALLOUT
Katrina Brought Poverty in America to the Front Page
Unfortunately, journalists haven’t accurately reported the data involved.

[Noel Sheppard] 10/28/05

Catastrophic events in America’s cities have a tendency to generate discussions about race, class, and poverty. The Watts riots in 1965, as well as the Rodney King riots in 1992 are fine examples. Hurricane Katrina has sparked another such debate. Unfortunately, America’s media are relying on consistently questionable or out-of-date statistics to not only exaggerate the problem, but to blame President Bush... [more]

THURSDAY: CULTURE POLITICK
Hate-Crime Laws and Evolutionary Tyranny
Thought control...
...
[Selwyn Duke]
10/27/05

The insidious thing about evolutionary tyranny is that it’s only as visible as the people are perceptive. It doesn’t beat you over the head like the iron fist of a despot or sweep you aside like a wave of revolution, but, rather, is a death by a thousand doses of bad medicine that makes benign neglect seem utopian.

One example of this brand of tyranny is the proliferation of hate-crime laws in the Western World. The very concept of hate-crime law itself is an offense against freedom and, as such, is quintessentially un-American. Yes, I hate hate-crime laws. And so should you... [more]

THURSDAY: THE WAR FOR CIVILIZATION
Islamophobia?

Bring the world under Islamic law...

[by Daniel Pipes] 10/27/05

An Islamist group named Hizb ut-Tahrir seeks to bring the world under Islamic law and advocates suicide attacks against Israelis. Facing proscription in Great Britain, it opened a clandestine front operation at British universities called "Stop Islamophobia," the Sunday Times has disclosed.

Stop what, you ask?... [more]

THURSDAY: THE WAR FOR CIVILIZATION
"Outrage" In Afghanistan Gaining Media Traction

That's why they call it war...
[Jm Kouri] 10/26/05

As the week of October 17 ended with the promise of criminal indictments of key White House officials and the Friday morning arraignment of former House Majority Leader Rep. Tom Delay, the elite media once again focused on their favorite subject -- US military misconduct. Of course, they use more colorful terms such as atrocities and abuse... [more]
