From the Mouths of Babes
A Lego Litany from Hometown & Tinseltown

FROM THE PHONE BOOTH: The Smallest Space in Hollywood
[Finefrock is also founder of PosseDominatus]
There were many who once were in the PosseDominatus, derived from a onetime signoff for this mini-blog effort: Anno Dominatus Dubyae, an exit-line for The Year of Dubya, the Latinate provided by a closet-conservative ensconced in a classics doctorate program at Berzerkeley, Calleefornya.
Those who comprised my informal “posse” got this signoff and their numbers grew, their passion urged by the PhoneBooth efforts.
Then Dubya’s year, or three-year era, ended with this past year’s disappointments, depression, and departure of many from the ranks of the loyal and dedicated. It’s hard being mean, to play on Kermit’s song: we the “mean” [as designated by opinion-makers of the left], find it difficult to keep up the pace in the face of so much relentless flak from the masters of flak flicking in our direction.

[including a TV series pilot/bible package about state political
combat, called "A
State of the Union"], hazardous materials [from twelve years
in emergency management, including six years managing FEMA's Superfund
curriculum for hazmat], terrorism, equestrian reincarnation, serial
murderer killing journalists in the nation's capitol, and fantasy
about time-wasters.[go to Finefrock index]

As a fortieth highschool reunion planning committee rounds up old classmates, a past girlfriend of solid Catholic persuasion came into my e-mail directory; always passionate, a would-be feminist but for the femi-nazi clan which dominates that group [she knows more about carburetors and torque-settings than 95% of today’s so-called guys, or two-thirds during our highschool days], she’s reared her daughters to adulthood and now focuses on canine children in major dog shows. Upon getting the “L’eggo my Lego” article, she replied quickly with:
“I'm beginning to think the common person is going to have to become an activist to survive.”
Is that as perfect a summary of the Cultural War’s imbalance of combat-ready troops? Activists tend to be on the left; folks with “real” lives tend to be on the right. And the Right has been undermanned for decades, only slightly boosted in its recruitment by talk radio, Fox News Channel and the blogosphere. Still, Our recruiting sergeants are starving for soldiers’ signing up, while Their recruiters just rack ‘em up as mobs spill thru the doorway of the left’s HQ.
One of many hints of this challenge came at a rightwing soiree in Brentwood [Yes, Virginia, there are conservatives in Brentwood, even Jewish ones!], when much-published Andrew Breitbart slammed me in front of others of the right: Steve, you are relentless, you remind me of the leftwing activists of the Sixties, a conservative Jerry Rubin you are, you just won’t let it rest.
And if Andrew is bothered by someone bothering him to get moving faster – the approach wasn’t nearly as dense as he let on – then those less involved are even harder to get to join the fray, commit their intellectual capital, and to keep up the fight. Thus many comments in public and private by the less-committed who are giving up the fight, or at least giving up some of their passion.
The hometown babe’s comments were preceded by an LA corporate PR gal of babe-ish qualities, who lamented that our team was getting clobbered:
“The country is going down the rat hole and it is very upsetting. Trying to keep the faith.”
Two belles giving a bellwether from inside two separated timezones: one in corporate craziness in a “diverse” city where conservatives hide in the shadows, the other in hometown conservative bastion in a solidly red state. The LA babe did close with:
“Take care and keep up the good fight.”
This week, the Lego matter was addressed by John Miller at National Review Online, one month after the item first appeared on TechCentralStation.com. Maybe this Lego story has legs, with some folks awakening to the battle ahead. We are still at a distinct disadvantage, as most of Us want just to get the daily duties done, in a competent manner. Activism is still the Left’s cause for living.
Both of the babes have brains, and children, and work duties galore. As so many on the right, of all genders and occupations, even those without children – work is Work, and politics is – well, for Someone Else To Do. Most Americans look at politics like they consider their auto’s engine or home’s air-conditioning: hire someone “who knows that stuff” and thereby outsource it to the experts. Who has a set of torque wrenches, or compression-gages, for auto or air-conditioning? Who knows the contents, much less the judicial elaborations, of the Sixth Amendment, or the bi-cameral system?
Let someone else do it, leave it to the experts.
Thus spoke the teachers, taking our children under their care – much like Mz. Jean Brodie, a role which earned Maggie Smith her 1969 Oscar, frequently uttering what must be the Lego ladies’ mantra: “I am in the business of putting old heads on young shoulders, and all my pupils are the crème de la crème. Give me a girl at an impressionable age and she is mine for life.” In this film, “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie” we see her dominance of English school girls in the pre-war era, nudging them toward her socialist views, leading one idealistic pudgy acolyte to skip school, join the Lincoln Brigade in Spain, dying for Brodie’s cause against Franco.
How many of today’s parents realize how many Jean Brodies there are in our schools? Grabbing their impressionable minds, even in pre-school, even when simple Legos are involved? Who see “the personal as the political” and their experiments are undertaken in the public-funded Frankenstein laboratoriums, their subjects being Other Peoples’ Children?
Soon the Year of Dubya will end, if it’s not already in its last symbolic month. The PosseDominatus needs more recruits, despite Breitbart’s biting bon mot. Housewives and househubbies and parents of all stripes who believe there should be no FrankenTeachers experimenting on their beloved offspring must get involved. Pay attention. Indeed, become an activist to survive, so your children, and grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, will survive. They are in that classroom filled with Brodies, determined to make your children hers for life.
These two babes in two timezones, both mothers, both with brains, are both seeing the light. The PosseDominatus needs recruits; our platoons are challenging entire armies on the left. Their armies occupy the highground with low ideas, in the schools, universities, Hollywood film and TV offices, in the media. Ya think it’s limited to one pair of Brodies at one school in Seattle?
It permeates and dominates, even in red-state Oklahoma – my old views of the old paper were hoping to find solace, but the Daily Oklahoman reads more like an insert of the LA Times. Brodies are permeating everywhere. No, Andrew, I won’t let it rest – to borrow from Larry Elder, We Got A Country To Save!
While we await to find if the next “Year” will be that of easily ruffled Rudy, or the angry ex-POW, be sure that we don’t want it to be the Year of the Left. See what they did when we relaxed this last November?
So, now is the time of our discontent, and recruiting, to reclaim LegoLand for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. For if the international battle against jihad can be labled, according to Ted Koppel as “Our Children’s Children’s War” then we also have a long-term domestic battle against the Mz. Jean Brodies. And it will, again, be a truly Target Rich environment.
So load up, PosseDominatus, and ride to the sound of the dumb-fire: WE GOT A COUNTRY TO SAVE, Andrew.
